Global Bitcoin Mining Shifts: Hive Blockchain’s Aydin Kilic on U.S. Strategy, Paraguay Expansion, and the Rise of the Electro-Dollar

During Paris Blockchain Week 2025, Hive Blockchain CEO Aydin Kilic shared key insights into the company’s evolving global strategy. While Hive has relocated its headquarters from Canada to the U.S. to better align with investor markets, its core mining operations remain globally distributed—particularly outside the United States.

Kilic highlighted Paraguay as Hive’s primary focus due to its abundant, low-cost renewable energy, making it ideal for sustainable Bitcoin mining. He detailed Hive’s growing presence in the region, including infrastructure investments and community-driven energy projects.

Kilic also touched on U.S. political dynamics, attributing part of Bitcoin’s recent surge to former President Donald Trump’s outspoken support, exemplified by his appearance at the 2025 Bitcoin conference in Nashville. He introduced the provocative idea of an “electro-dollar”—a U.S. dollar backed by energy production tied to Bitcoin mining, potentially reshaping the financial and energy landscapes.

Additionally, Kilic discussed Hive’s ongoing partnership with Intel to develop its custom BuzzMiner ASICs, signaling the company’s long-term commitment to innovation and operational efficiency.
