Apple softens rules for cryptocurrency-related apps, 'extremely optimistic' for the cryptocurrency industry
The court's decision is "absolutely important for cryptocurrencies," says a cryptocurrency commentator, as iOS apps will no longer be charged the high fee for out-of-app purchases.
Cryptocurrency app developers are now free to direct users to payments outside of Apple's ecosystem without restrictions or heavy fees, after a U.S. district judge ruled that Apple violated an injunction in its antitrust legal battle against Epic Games.
“The Court finds that Apple intentionally violated the injunction issued by this Court in 2021, which was issued to restrict and prohibit Apple's anticompetitive conduct and anticompetitive pricing. Apple’s ongoing attempts to interfere with competition will not be tolerated,” stated U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in a court document dated April 30.
