#AppleCryptoUpdate Apple softens the rules for apps related to cryptocurrencies, something "very positive" for the industry

The court ruling is "absolutely significant for cryptocurrencies," says a cryptocurrency commentator, as iOS apps will no longer be affected by high charges for off-app purchases.

Cryptocurrency app developers now have the freedom to direct users to off-Apple ecosystem payments without restrictions or high fees, after a U.S. district judge ruled that Apple violated a court order in its antitrust legal battle against Epic Games.

The Court declares that Apple has deliberately violated the 2021 Court Order, issued to restrict and prohibit Apple’s anticompetitive conduct and pricing. Continued attempts by Apple to interfere with competition will not be tolerated, federal district judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers stated in a filing to the court on April 30.

Apple must implement changes "effective immediately"

"From now on, Apple will no longer impede developers' ability to communicate with users, nor will it charge or impose a new commission for off-app purchases," added Rogers.

Rogers reiterated: "This is a court order, not a negotiation. There are no second chances if one of the parties voluntarily ignores a court order. Time is of the essence".

The ruling stated that Apple must not impose any commission or fee for purchases that consumers make outside of an app. It added that there is no reason to audit, monitor, track, or require developers to report on purchases or any other activity that consumers engage in outside of an app.

It was ruled that Apple cannot control how developers design or place links that lead users to purchase items outside of the app.
