Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of $ETH , announced new development priorities for the network in 2025, focusing on simplifying Layer-1. In his post on April 30, Buterin emphasized the need to accelerate transaction finalization, implement stateless clients, enhance privacy, and strengthen decentralization. These changes aim to strengthen the core infrastructure of Ethereum, addressing scalability issues and making the network more efficient.

Buterin also proposed replacing the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with RISC-V architecture, which could increase the efficiency of executing smart contracts by up to 100 times. This solution, he said, will simplify the execution layer and reduce costs. At the same time, Kakarot, a startup supported by Buterin, plans to implement real-time STARK proofs for Layer-1 by the end of 2025, which will improve speed and security.

These steps coincide with a record increase in active Ethereum users — over 15.4 million addresses in a week, most of whom are using Layer-2 solutions. Buterin urges the community to support a decentralized ecosystem while preserving the value of ETH.
