Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, said on Friday that his father, King Charles, no longer speaks to him and that he "would like to reconcile" with the royal family.
In a dramatic interview with the BBC after losing a court case over the British government's decision to deny him police protection, Prince Harry said that King Charles "wouldn't speak to me because of these security matters."
Harry added that security was at the heart of his dispute with his family, adding that he "couldn't believe" the decision to reduce his security in 2020 after he and his wife Meghan stepped down as senior members of the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex said: "When this decision was made, I couldn't believe it. In fact, I couldn't believe it. I thought, with all the controversy and chaos going on, the only thing I could rely on was my family keeping me safe."
Prince Harry added that it is currently "impossible" for him to bring his family home. He said, "I cannot imagine a world where I could bring my wife and children back to the UK at this stage."
The Duke of Sussex explained that there are "a lot of disagreements" between him and some members of his family, but the situation regarding his police protection is a "sticking point."
"It's the only thing left," Harry said. "Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they'll never forgive me for a lot of things. But, you know... I'd like to make peace with my family. There's no point in continuing to quarrel anymore."
Prince Harry added: "My father won't talk to me because of these security matters, but it would be good if we could make up.
