Spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre announced early this morning that the United States will prohibit all countries and businesses from purchasing oil from Iran and will impose secondary sanctions on those who violate the ban.
This move means that the United States will completely block Iran's oil exports. This move is indeed very harsh, as it cuts off your oil supply directly! Not allowing you to sell oil directly cuts off your financial resources!
This action was taken because Iran delayed the nuclear negotiations originally scheduled to start on May 3. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani strongly opposed the U.S. actions, stating that the U.S. should not obstruct Iran's normal trade with other countries.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also issued a warning that Iran should return to the negotiating table, or it will face greater actions.
