Israel battles worst wildfires in country's history

Massive wildfires broke out near Jerusalem on April 30, prompting a national emergency as flames swept across the Judaean Mountains. More than 3,000 acres have already been scorched, leading to evacuations in several towns and the closure of major highways connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. At least 13 individuals have been hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. The fires disrupted national Memorial Day ceremonies and led to the cancellation of Independence Day festivities. The Israel Defense Forces, supported by firefighting aircraft from Italy and Croatia, are working to bring the blaze under control. Authorities suspect arson and have arrested one suspect. Prime Minister Netanyahu warned that the city of Jerusalem could be at risk if conditions deteriorate further.
