Ripple recently transferred a billion XRP in its monthly rebalancing exercise, resulting in a significant portion of the tokens being sent to the escrow account with no issuance from the escrow account in May 2025 so far.

These transactions, which were conducted through six Ripple addresses, were part of what has become a routine procedure for the company over the past few months. Notably, Ripple has recently been locking tokens before opening the usual escrow accounts.

Two Ripple addresses transfer a billion XRP to four different wallets

For this month, the company transferred 500 million XRP for the first time in the final hours of May 1 using the Ripple (26) address. Notably, Ripple (26) distributed the 500 million tokens across two receiving addresses. Specifically, it sent 300 million XRP to Ripple (1) at 22:54, then transferred 200 million XRP to Ripple (14) at 22:55.

Shortly after this initial series of transfers, the company used another address, Ripple (27), to mix an additional 500 million XRP. Specifically, Ripple (27) transferred 300 million XRP to Ripple (14) at 22:56. It is worth mentioning that Ripple (14) had already received 200 million XRP tokens from Ripple (26) during the first batch of transactions.

Meanwhile, after the transfer to Ripple (14), the second sending address, Ripple (27), transferred 30 million XRP to Ripple (15) at 22:57, then sent an additional 170 million XRP to Ripple (51). Thus, the total tokens transferred by Ripple (27) reached 500 million XRP.

In summary, Ripple (26) and Ripple (27) transferred a total of a billion XRP tokens. Of this number, Ripple (1) received 300 million tokens, Ripple (14) received 500 million XRP in two transfers, Ripple (15) received only 30 million XRP, and Ripple (51) received 170 million XRP.

Ripple locks 700 million XRP in escrow account

The company then froze some of these tokens and retained the rest. Specifically, Ripple (14), which received 500 million XRP, froze all tokens in the escrow account at 23:01. After one minute, Ripple (15), which received only 30 million XRP, sent all tokens to the escrow account.

Meanwhile, Ripple (51), which gathered 170 million XRP, transferred its entire balance to the escrow account at 23:04. Notably, this raised the total assets deposited in the escrow account to 700 million XRP tokens, out of the billion tokens transferred. Ripple (1), which received 300 million XRP in the first batch of transfers, has kept these tokens until the time of publication.

- Announcement -

The recent transactions came at a time when the XRP token is still facing a decline at the $2.2 level, despite the broader market recovery that saw Bitcoin (BTC) regain $97,000. At the time of publication, XRP was trading at $2.21, down 0.08% over the past 24 hours. During this publication, the value of XRP at a billion was $2.21 billion, while the value of 700 million tokens was $1.547 billion.

Interestingly, amid these transactions, the company did not notice any tokens issued from the escrow account for May 2025. Notably, Ripple experienced a similar pattern last April, where it transferred a billion tokens, then locked 700 million at the beginning of the month. Two days later, the company noted the issuance of a billion XRP from the escrow account.
