Fed warns of a “crossroads” in financial technology innovation Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman said the U.S. central bank is at a “crossroads”: either seize the opportunity to shape the future or risk falling behind. Speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, she urged banks and regulators to be more open to new technologies rather than sticking to an overly cautious mindset. Appointed by President Donald Trump, Bowman emphasized that technologies like AI and blockchain can significantly benefit the banking system, strengthening both safety and financial stability. She also compared Fed staff overseeing crypto without hands-on experience to “a ski instructor who has never put on skis.” Bowman suggested that the Fed should consider allowing staff to hold small amounts of crypto to gain practical experience and deepen expertise. Her remarks come as the Fed recently eased restrictions on banks engaging in crypto and stablecoin activities, while ending certain supervisory programs criticized for hindering financial innovation.

Bernstein forecasts the crypto bull run could extend until 2027, longer than the traditional four-year cycle, fueled by U.S. policy support and strong institutional participation. Bitcoin: Expected to reach $150,000 – $200,000 within the next 12 months. Robinhood (HOOD): Price target raised from $105 to $160, driven by July crypto trading volume up 110% and the Bitstamp acquisition. Coinbase (COIN): Price target set at $510, supported by July volumes over $100 billion, derivatives expansion, tokenization, and banking partnerships. Circle (CRCL): Target maintained at $230; USDC supply projected to rise from $68 billion to $173 billion by 2027, thanks to its role as DeFi’s liquidity backbone and growing banking/payment partnerships. Bernstein emphasized that the next leg of the rally will not be limited to Bitcoin but also include Ethereum, Solana, and DeFi tokens, fueling continued inflows into exchanges and stablecoin issuers.

Ethereum led investment inflows last week with $2.87 billion, accounting for 77% of the total $3.75 billion, driven mainly by BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum fund. Meanwhile, Bitcoin recorded only $522 million. Total assets under management hit a record $244 billion, with the U.S. contributing nearly all of the inflows. XRP and Solana also attracted over $300 million, pushing their year-to-date inflows above $2 billion.
