China said on Friday that it is assessing the possibility of trade talks with the United States, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce said, emphasizing that any negotiations should be based on sincerity and the elimination of unilateral tariffs.
This statement came in response to recent U.S. remarks expressing a desire to participate in trade negotiations.
China's Ministry of Commerce reported that Washington has sent signals through various channels to initiate talks.
"China's position is consistent. If we fight, we will fight to the end; if we talk, the door is open. The tariff war and trade war were initiated unilaterally by the United States," the spokesperson said in a statement.
China further stated that if the United States wants to talk, it must "show sincerity and be prepared to correct its erroneous policies and cancel unilateral tariffs."
"Saying one thing and doing another, or attempting to threaten and blackmail under the guise of negotiations, will not work with China."
