Ethereum is working on simplifying transactions between different blockchains by introducing new token standards. Currently, performing cross-chain operations can be complex and error-prone. The proposal aims to create a more intuitive and efficient system for users.
Two standards in development, ERC-7930 and ERC-7828, seek to improve interoperability. ERC-7930 defines a compact binary format for interoperable addresses, optimized for protocols that require a unique representation for all blockchains. On the other hand, ERC-7828 adds a human-readable layer, using formats like "address@chain", facilitating understanding and reducing the possibility of sending assets to the wrong blockchain.
The implementation of these standards would allow specifying the target blockchain when sending a payment. This would significantly simplify the user experience, eliminating the need to manually switch networks in wallets and decreasing the friction associated with cross-chain transfers. The goal is to make operations between different blockchains within the Ethereum ecosystem as easy as transactions within the same network.
