An ultra-thin material might soon be able to stop bullets — and it’s only two atoms thick!
Imagine wearing body armor that’s light and not bulky, yet still strong enough to handle bullets. Sounds impossible, right?
But scientists at the City University of New York are working on exactly that, using a material called Diamene.
Diamene is made by layering two sheets of graphene on silicon carbide. When pressure is applied, it becomes as hard as a diamond — which means it could handle powerful impacts, maybe even bullets.
Graphene itself is already amazing. It’s just one atom thick, made of carbon in a honeycomb pattern. It’s extremely strong, very light, and great at conducting heat and electricity.
With Diamene, we might soon have ultra-light bulletproof gear — and this breakthrough could change both technology and defense forever.
