Asian stocks rise amid quiet holiday trading
Asian stocks rose on Thursday, one of the few trading days open in the region, while most markets were closed for Labor Day. Investors took cues from Wall Street, where U.S. stocks rebounded from early heavy losses to post gains for the seventh consecutive day.
Despite ongoing uncertainty in President Donald Trump's trade war with China and other partners, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 1.31% to 36,516. Traders digested the Bank of Japan's decision to maintain its benchmark interest rate, even as questions increased about how new tariffs and U.S. proposals could impact the world's third-largest economy.
