The United States and Ukraine signed an agreement on Wednesday that will grant Washington access to the vast critical minerals and natural resources of the European nation, fulfilling a pact aimed at compensating the United States for its assistance in repelling the Russian invasion.

Both parties provided only a few basic details about the structure of the agreement, which they called the United States-Ukraine Reinvestment Fund. The pact is expected to grant the United States access to Ukraine's valuable rare minerals while providing Kiev with some degree of assurance regarding continued U.S. support in its exhausting war with Russia.

“This agreement sends a clear message to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine in the long term,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a statement. "President (Donald) Trump conceived this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to demonstrate the commitment of both parties to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine."

For Ukraine, the agreement is considered vital to ensure its access to future military aid from the United States.

"Truly, this is a strategic agreement for the creation of an investment partner fund," said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. “It is indeed an international, fair, and good agreement on joint investment in the development and restoration of Ukraine between the governments of the United States and Ukraine.”
