【Trump: He May Change His Position to Support Ukraine Due to Putin's Actions】
On April 29, U.S. President Trump acknowledged that due to Putin's actions, he might change his position to support Ukraine.
In an interview with The Atlantic, editor Jeffrey Goldberg asked Trump if Putin might take certain actions, to which he replied, "You know what? Right now, I'm on Zelensky's side."
Trump responded, "Not necessarily on Zelensky's side, but on Ukraine's side—yes, yes. But not necessarily on Zelensky's side. I have had conflicts with Zelensky. You have seen that here too."
Goldberg also asked Trump if he had envisioned a scenario in which he would provide more weapons to Ukraine to help maintain its territorial integrity.
Trump said, "It doesn’t necessarily have to be weapons. Weapons come in many forms. It doesn’t necessarily have to be weapons with bullets. It could also be 'weapons' in the form of sanctions. It could also be 'weapons' in the form of banking mechanisms. There are many other forms of 'weapons.'"
Trump reiterated his point, stating that the U.S. has "spent $350 billion" in aid to Ukraine, while Europe has "provided much less help." He said, "Let’s see what happens in about a week. We are nearing the end. Once again, this is Biden's war. I do not intend to bear this burden—I do not want people to associate me with this war. This is a terrible war. It should not have happened." the White House resident added.
On April 24, Russia launched large-scale missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. In the capital, there were casualties and deaths.
On April 26, Trump and Zelensky attended the funeral of Pope Francis in Vatican City. Before the ceremony, the two leaders had a face-to-face conversation. Shortly after, Trump posted on social media that Russia had no reason to launch missile attacks on Kyiv. Furthermore, he speculated that Putin might be playing him and does not want to end the war.
