43,880,190,296 bitcoins use 0.54% of the world's electricity
According to a report by the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, Bitcoin consumes 0.54% of global energy use, which is equivalent to 138 TWh per year.
The United States leads (75.4% of the hash rate), followed by Canada and South America. The report notes that the decline in block rewards could jeopardize the network's security, and in the future, transaction fees will become the primary source of income.
