🔹Kakarot, backed by Vitalik Buterin and StarkWare, unveiled an independent zkEVM using STARK proofs, aiming to prove Ethereum Layer 1 blocks in real-time by late 2025.
🔹Built in Cairo, StarkWare’s ZK-native language, Kakarot offers an alternative to dominant stacks like Plonky3, RISC-V, and revm.
🔹Ethereum researcher Justin Drake praised its client diversity, calling it essential for ZK robustness.
🔹The move follows Vitalik’s proposal to replace EVM bytecode with RISC-V for up to 100x execution savings—a plan Kakarot isn’t rushing to adopt.
🔹Backed by $6M in funding, Kakarot began as a community project and is now a serious ZK infrastructure contender.
