USA to Russia: Time to Put an End to "This Meaningless War"

The head of U.S. diplomacy, Marco Rubio, told his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, that the United States is determined to try to put an end to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the State Department indicated this Monday (04.28.2025).
Washington "takes seriously the task of facilitating the end of this meaningless war," declared State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce in a statement.
According to the spokesperson, Rubio spoke with Lavrov about the next steps in the peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and the need to end the war.
The call took place before Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a three-day ceasefire on Monday that coincides with the commemorations in Moscow for the end of World War II.
Rubio stated on Sunday that this week will be crucial to assess efforts to end the war.
