Ethereum at 2,000 TPS

BOLD proposal to multiply the gas limit by 100

Goodbye to HIGH fees?

Researcher #Ethereum Dankrad Feist has presented a bold Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP-9698) that proposes a gradual one hundredfold increase in the Ethereum gas limit.

This ambitious initiative aims to drastically increase the transaction processing capacity of the Ethereum base network, addressing one of its biggest challenges: scalability and high gas fees.

Exponential Increase of the Gas Limit

EIP-9698 proposes a "deterministic growth schedule for the gas limit" with tenfold increases every two years (164,250 epochs), starting in June 2025.

Hundredfold Increase in Four Years

If implemented as suggested, the Ethereum gas limit could rise from 36 million to 3.6 billion over a period of four years.

Radical Efficiency

This theoretical increase would allow Ethereum to process up to 2,000 transactions per second (TPS), representing a significant improvement in the efficiency of the base network.

Currently, the gas limit of Ethereum is 36 million, compared to 30 million earlier this year. In 2015, when Ethereum was launched, the gas limit was around 5,000 per block. By 2021, it had increased to about 15 million gas, and after the merger in 2022, it stabilized around 30 million.
