Myanmar earthquake death toll could reach 100,000

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) predicts that in the worst-case scenario, the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar could result in 100,000 deaths and cause severe economic damage.

On March 28, the USGS released a preliminary assessment of the powerful earthquake in central Myanmar, estimating a 35% probability that the death toll will range between 10,000 and 100,000, and a 36% probability that it will exceed 100,000.

This prediction is based on the epicenter's location, about 16 km northwest of Myanmar’s Sagaing city, and the surrounding infrastructure quality.
