$BTC 💸 Why altcoins are doomed to lose to Bitcoin
Swan Analytics conducted an analysis of the top 300 altcoins over the last 5 years to measure their real performance relative to Bitcoin. The results are ruthless:
▪️ Most altcoins crash against BTC.
▪️ Long-term outperformance of Bitcoin is virtually absent.
▪️ The data cannot be ignored.
How it was calculated:
▪️ For each altcoin, we recorded its historical maximum against BTC.
▪️ We measured how many months it took to fall -90% from the peak.
What was discovered:
▪️ The median altcoin fell by -90% over 10–20 months.
▪️ Some crashed in less than 2 months: LUNA1, ONG, BRISE.
How quickly large tokens lost -90% against BTC:
$QTUM — 17 months
Polygon ($MATIC) — 23 months
Internet Computer ($ICP) — 24 months
Cardano ($ADA) and $XRP — 36 months
Litecoin ($LTC) — 69 months
Monero ($XMR) — 72 months (the most 'stable' among those that fell)
⚠️ Important conclusion: Time ≠ safety. Just because an altcoin doesn't drop for a long time doesn't mean it will be an exception.
But what about those who haven't fallen -90% yet?
▪️ Their average decline against BTC is -76%.
▪️ The best result among them is still -43% from the historical maximum.
So, the 'survivors' do not win — they just die slower.
Conclusion:
▪️ Most altcoins quickly lose value relative to Bitcoin.
▪️ Survivors are not successful, but just slowly declining projects.
▪️ Bitcoin remains the benchmark for capital preservation.
