Reports have indicated that some cryptocurrency miners have exploited the drop in electricity prices in Kuwait, where the cost of mining one Bitcoin was about 1,400 US dollars in 2022, compared to more than 18,000 US dollars in Texas. This exploitation led to increased pressure on the national electricity grid.

On the other hand:

Digital currencies are considered a potential means for money laundering and financing terrorism due to their difficulty in tracking and the absence of central oversight. Therefore, countries are striving to criminalize them, as the Central Bank of Kuwait and the Capital Markets Authority issued a circular prohibiting the use of virtual assets as a means of payment or investment, and forbidding the issuance of licenses to provide virtual asset services for that purpose.
