Coinbase Derivatives, LLC has launched CFTC-regulated XRP futures contracts, expanding the list of cryptocurrency derivative products under the oversight of U.S. regulators. This could be a stepping stone for a spot XRP cryptocurrency ETF, a product that the cryptocurrency industry has long desired. In the past, the SEC has viewed the existence of a regulated futures market as a prerequisite for approving a spot cryptocurrency ETF. Bitcoin and Ethereum have also followed this path.
