Vitalik Buterin wants to restart Ethereum through RISC-V — the most radical idea in the project's history.
The founder of Ethereum proposes to replace the EVM, the heart of the entire network, with RISC-V architecture, which is typically used in modern processors.
This means not just an update, but a complete redesign of Ethereum's low-level logic.
What exactly does Buterin propose:
- Implementing RISC-V as a universal platform for executing contracts;
- Expanding ZK protocols and data availability indicators;
- Beam Chain project — simplified consensus and modular architecture;
- Increasing the scalability, fault tolerance, and flexibility of the entire system.
Ethereum is at a dead end.
It is overloaded, degrading, and losing to the likes of Solana, Sui, and Aptos. Meanwhile, Layer-2 networks track revenue but do not save the base layer.
Transitioning to RISC-V could unlock a new technical level, make Ethereum more flexible and better for developers, as well as more compatible with native ZK solutions.
There is one catch! This is years of development and billion-dollar expenses!!!
