What does the pause mean?
The announced pause only applies to some of the new tariffs - import taxes - that Donald Trump announced on April 2.
The new minimum tariff rate of 10%, which came into effect on Saturday, April 5, remains in force for products coming from all countries, including the United Kingdom.
There are exemptions for pharmaceuticals, microchips, and some other items.
But that 10% tariff itself represents a significant change in trade relations between the United States and all other countries.
And for China, the rate will not decrease at all, but will instead increase even more, to 125%, plus another 20% related to the fentanyl drug.
However, the pause means that rates above 10% for another 59 territories will be suspended until July.
This includes 46% for Vietnam, 44% for Sri Lanka, and 20% for the European Union.
