Trump announces pause on tariffs: strategy or instability?

This week, Donald Trump surprised the market by announcing a 90-day pause on tariffs for most countries — maintaining, however, a 125% tariff on products from China.

The reaction was immediate:

Republicans saw it as a strategic negotiation move.

Democrats raised suspicions about possible market manipulation.

Businesspeople and investors, such as Bill Ackman and Mark Cuban, criticized the volatility caused by the sudden change.

Economists warn that, even with the pause, the real effect of the tariffs may be more harmful than initially expected. Meanwhile, companies, faced with uncertainty, are rushing to redo their import and stock planning.

The question remains:

Are we facing a temporary tactic or a new chapter of instability in U.S. trade policy?
