According to reports by Wu, Ye Zhang, co-founder of Scroll, stated on the X platform that taxing L2 is one of the most toxic ideas for Ethereum's future, believing that it would sacrifice long-term scalability and ecosystem growth.
He emphasized that the true value of ETH lies in being the core asset of thousands of rollup ecosystems, rather than relying on protocol fees. ETH is already the dominant asset of L2s such as Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync, and Scroll.
Ye Zhang emphasized that more rollups will enhance the trust and use of ETH as a store of value (SoV). If L2 is taxed, it may lead to L2 turning to alternative DA, weakening Ethereum's competitiveness. He suggested that Ethereum should accelerate technological upgrades to enhance the attractiveness of DA.
