Bukele may visit Trump if Bitcoin aims coincide.

President Bukele may visit Trump at the White House, fostering deeper connections and common Bitcoin and crypto reserve ambitions.

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele has shown interest in visiting President Donald Trump at the White House, sparking speculation about greater connections, notably around Bitcoin. Bukele would be the first Western Hemisphere leader to meet Trump in the White House during his presidency, but no preparations have been revealed.

Bukele said he'd fly to Washington if Trump invited him on March 28 and joked on social media about bringing “several cans of Diet Coke”—Trump's favorite drink. Since Trump became president, they've remained friends. Trump complimented Bukele earlier this year for his “understanding of this horrible situation” on US border issues.

The meeting may follow El Salvador's decision to accept US-deported Venezuelan gang members. US Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem visited the high-security Terrorism Confinement Center, where these people are housed.

Bukele's gang crackdown has drawn worldwide acclaim and condemnation. His strategy has transformed El Salvador from a dangerous nation to a Latin American safe haven.

While Bitcoin may be key to future meetings between the two leaders, speculation grows. Bukele and Trump embrace Bitcoin, but in different ways. Bukele has led boldly, whereas Trump has suddenly altered his mind on Bitcoin.

El Salvador established the first national Bitcoin reserve in 2021 under Bukele. At 6,130.18 BTC, that reserve is worth nearly $512 million. Due to its crypto-friendly climate, his administration has attracted Tether and worldwide investment.

Trump has accepted Bitcoin after being hesitant. He authorized a US National Bitcoin Reserve this month. Under him, the federal government possesses about 200,000 BTC, signifying a new crypto policy.
