The U.S. government has lifted sanctions on the Tornado Cash platform
The Tornado Cash platform has faced sanctions multiple times due to allegations of assisting the Lazarus group in money laundering.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control removed Tornado Cash from its global blacklist on Friday.
This cryptocurrency mixing tool was accused of helping the North Korean Lazarus group launder stolen funds from various hacks and thefts it carried out, and it was sanctioned multiple times by the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control, meaning that no American or anyone dealing with the United States could transact with it financially. However, a federal appeals court ruled last November that the Office of Foreign Assets Control could not impose sanctions on Tornado Cash smart contracts as they are not "property" of any foreign national. A press release from the U.S. Treasury Department stated: "We remain deeply concerned about the large-scale state-sponsored hacking and money laundering campaign aimed at stealing, acquiring, and distributing digital assets for the benefit of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Kim regime." #VoteToDelistOnBinance
