$ETH
ETH, or Ethereum, is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform that enables smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps) to run without the need for third-party intermediaries. It was proposed by Vitalik Buterin in 2013 and launched in 2015. ETH is the native cryptocurrency of Ethereum, used to pay for transaction fees and computational services on the network. Ethereum has played a pivotal role in the rise of decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The Ethereum network is transitioning from a proof-of-work to a more energy-efficient proof-of-stake consensus mechanism.
