What is Nillion (NIL)?
Nillion is a blind computing network designed specifically for artificial intelligence and data. The network uses PETs (Privacy-Enhancing Technologies) to maintain privacy while providing computation and storage capabilities on data. This enables use cases such as personalized artificial intelligence, encrypted databases, and privacy-preserving applications.
NIL is the native utility token of the network and is used for the following purposes:
・ Network fees for payments via Petnet with blind computation and Coordination Layer
・ Staking to secure the network
・ Participation in the on-chain governance module
NIL provides access to Nillion modules and services, including:
・ nilDB: An encrypted database where data is split across multiple nodes. Computations can be performed while data is in encrypted form.
・ nilAI: The AI Virtual Machine (AIVM) includes AI-focused privacy technologies such as nada-AI and nilTEE.
・ nilVM: A VM with libraries that simplify program development by allowing AI developers to write web3 programs using Python and Javascript.
Who Are the Founders of Nillion?
Nillion was founded by Andrew Masanto, Miguel de Vega, Alexander Page, and Andrew Yeoh.
Andrew Masanto, co-founder of Hedera Hashgraph, met Dr. Miguel de Vega in 2018, and in 2022, Dr. Miguel de Vega introduced an innovation to ensure the security of private data. Andrew invited his former investment banking colleagues and long-time friends Alexander Page and Andrew Yeoh to transform this emerging technology into the existing Nillion protocol.
