“Crypto Mom” Peirce: Meme Coins Not Under SEC Regulation?📉
Hester Peirce, a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) known as “Crypto Mom,” recently stated in an interview that many existing meme coins are not within the SEC's regulatory scope. She suggested that Congress and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) address this issue.
Peirce also mentioned that a Dogecoin ETF may be approved this year, with a 75% chance of being classified as a commodity. She describes herself as a “libertarian extremist” and criticized the barriers set by the SEC’s former leadership, calling for the establishment of innovative policies to support industry development.
Additionally, Peirce has led the establishment of a working group in the crypto industry aimed at developing clearer regulatory rules. Meanwhile, the SEC is reducing its enforcement efforts on cryptocurrencies, and its chief attorney has been reassigned to the IT department.
