This statement from Trump comes at a time when the Brazilian central bank is developing the digital real, known as Drex. Some Brazilian parliamentarians, such as Congresswoman Júlia Zanatta, also spoke out against the creation of this digital currency, arguing that it could give the state almost complete control over financial transactions.

It is important to note, however, that Trump is not against all forms of digital currencies. He recently launched his own cryptocurrency, $Trump, which exploded in value in its first days of trading.
