According to Foresight News, South Korea's Minister of the Interior and Safety, Lee Sang-min, has announced his resignation. In a statement, Lee expressed his regret for not aligning with public sentiment and adequately supporting the President, taking full responsibility for his actions and apologizing to the citizens.
Lee's resignation follows a period of controversy, particularly after he made statements supporting martial law during an emergency parliamentary inquiry, which sparked significant debate. Earlier, in February of the previous year, Lee was impeached and suspended by the National Assembly due to his involvement in the "Itaewon incident," marking him as the first cabinet member in South Korea's constitutional history to be impeached. However, in July of the same year, the Constitutional Court dismissed the impeachment case against him, allowing Lee to resume his duties.
