According to reports from PANews, data from the South Korean Intellectual Property Office shows that the Bank of Korea has submitted 44 trademark applications for its central bank digital currency (CBDC), including "KRDW" and "Digital Won," of which 38 have entered the pre-registration announcement stage. The Bank of Korea stated that this move is a defensive measure to prevent public confusion caused by commercial use by private enterprises. The Bank of Korea has previously taken a cautious stance towards stablecoins, concerned about their impact on the effectiveness of monetary policy. Recently, South Korean banks and tech companies, such as KB Kookmin Bank, have submitted trademark applications for the won stablecoin, creating a competitive trademark landscape.
