According to Cointelegraph, the Russian Ministry of Energy has launched a national registry for cryptocurrency miners to combat tax evasion and illegal electricity use. Officials from the Ministry of Finance stated that despite the introduction of cryptocurrency mining legislation, only 30% of miners have registered. The Deputy Minister of Energy indicated that this move aims to legalize the industry and reduce illegal electricity use. The registry will help identify consumers using electricity for mining, allowing for special regulation and taxation. The government has banned cryptocurrency mining activities in 10 regions, with the ban lasting until 2031. The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia is drafting a new bill to increase fines for illegal cryptocurrency mining to 2 million rubles.
