According to Cointelegraph, the U.S. Treasury Department has sanctioned the Russian Aeza Group and its executives, as well as the cryptocurrency wallets associated with the service, due to their alleged hosting of ransomware and information stealers. The Aeza Group provides bulletproof hosting services, assisting cybercriminals in ransomware activities and stealing sensitive information. The sanctions include an address with $350,000 in cryptocurrency, several Russian and British companies, and four Russian nationals. Blockchain security company CertiK states that the $2.1 billion in cryptocurrency stolen in 2025 was primarily due to phishing attacks. Chainalysis notes that the sanctioned Tron blockchain address is a management wallet handling payments for Aeza. TRM Labs indicates that this address is related to other cybercriminal services and the sanctioned Russian cryptocurrency exchange Garantex. OFAC accuses the Aeza Group of providing services to ransomware and malware groups. The sanctions freeze all U.S. assets related to Aeza and prohibit Americans from conducting any financial transactions. Chainalysis states that the sanctions are an important step in combating cybercrime infrastructure.
