According to BlockBeats, on February 18, the Russian power company Rosseti Group disclosed losses exceeding 1.3 billion rubles (approximately $14.2 million) in 2024 due to illegal cryptocurrency mining activities. The North Caucasus region experienced the highest losses, surpassing 600 million rubles, followed by the Novosibirsk region with losses amounting to 400 million rubles.
The company has identified 130 cases of unauthorized access and electricity theft, with the largest incident occurring in Novosibirsk. This case involved 3,200 mining devices and resulted in a loss of 197 million rubles. Currently, more than 40 cases are under investigation according to Russian criminal law.
