According to Odaily, OpenAI is actively searching for locations across the United States to establish a network of large data centers to support its artificial intelligence technology. This expansion aims to extend beyond its flagship site in Texas, with the company exploring options in 16 states to accelerate the Stargate project, a key initiative supported by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The manufacturer of ChatGPT has issued requests for proposals concerning land, power, engineers, and architects. This week, OpenAI representatives began visiting potential sites in Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The Stargate project, a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank, was heavily promoted by President Trump shortly after his return to the White House last month. The venture plans to invest $100 billion, eventually reaching $500 billion, to build large data centers and develop the necessary energy production for advancing artificial intelligence.

Chris Lehane, OpenAI's Vice President of Global Affairs, stated on Thursday that several states have reached out to OpenAI following Trump's announcement, expressing interest in hosting additional data centers. The company's proposal specifies that sites should be "close to necessary infrastructure, including power and water."

While OpenAI's proposal does not specify a preference for renewable energy sources such as wind or solar power, it emphasizes that power suppliers should have plans to manage carbon emissions and water usage. The initial Texas project is located in an energy-rich area described by the mayor of Abilene, featuring wind, solar, and natural gas resources.

Keith Heyde, OpenAI's Director of Infrastructure Strategy, mentioned, "We are considering several sites, and we hope to bring new power to these sites through new gas deployments or other means."
