According to Cointelegraph, Open Campus, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) focused on on-chain education, has launched its layer-3 blockchain, EDU Chain, on Arbitrum Orbit. Unveiled on January 17, EDU Chain is designed to support educational apps and on-chain learning using the EDU token.

A key feature of EDU Chain is the Open Campus Achievement system, which allows educational institutions to issue tamper-proof, decentralized records of qualifications. These records are stored in a learner’s digital wallet and are fully controlled by the individual, ensuring privacy. Access to these records requires the learner's permission, offering greater control over personal academic data.

Yat Siu, co-founder of Animoca Brands and a council member of the EDU Foundation, emphasized the system’s potential to personalize learning experiences by allowing selective sharing of academic records. The system is currently in private beta, with plans for wider adoption.

EDU Chain has already reached $150 million in total value locked (TVL), making it the largest layer-3 blockchain by this measure, according to L2Beat. Following a successful testnet phase, which saw 86.2 million transactions and 358,684 active wallets, developers behind 47 decentralized applications (DApps) are now deploying their projects on the mainnet.
