Bybit, one of the most used exchanges globally, was recently hacked in an attack that resulted in the theft of over 401,000 ETH (about 1.4 billion dollars), becoming the largest cryptocurrency theft recorded to date.
đ How did they do it?
The attackers used a technique known as interface phishing, where they managed to get the signers to approve critical changes to smart contracts without realizing they were being deceived.
This allowed them to transfer funds from a cold wallet (normally secure) to a hot wallet (more vulnerable because it is online).
