Hackers have launched a dangerous new wave of cyber attacks aimed directly at macOS users who own cryptocurrency. These criminals are disguising fake apps as the official Ledger Live app — a tool used to manage crypto on Ledger hardware wallets — to steal users' 24-word seed phrases 🧠💀. This phrase is the master key to your crypto, and if someone gets it, they can drain your entire wallet in seconds! 😱

Since August 2024, experts at cybersecurity firm Moonlock Labs have been tracking these sneaky scams. The attackers initially just spied on users' wallet info and passwords, but now they’ve upped their game 🎮💣. By showing fake popups about “critical errors,” these lookalike apps trick users into typing their recovery phrase right into a phishing page. Once entered, your wallet's treasure chest is wide open to the crooks 🪙🚪.

One notorious malware named “Odyssey” (made by a hacker going by "Rodrigo") swaps out your real Ledger Live with a fake one that’s nearly impossible to tell apart 😵‍💫. It even fakes system warnings and creates believable interfaces, all just to get your seed phrase. Worse yet, this trick has spread — other malware like AMOS now copies Rodrigo’s methods, fooling even tech-savvy users. These apps can sneak past macOS security tools like Gatekeeper by disguising themselves as normal downloads 📦🧑‍💻.

Another hacker named "@mentalpositive" has begun advertising a so-called “anti-Ledger” feature in their malware on dark web forums 😈🕸️. While this version isn’t fully developed yet, it shows that more copycats are jumping in. Even big cybersecurity companies like Jamf have confirmed these fake apps are out in the wild, using clever tricks to steal browser history, cookies, and files from your device — especially anything connected to crypto wallets 🚫🗃️.

💡 How to Stay Safe: Never — and we mean NEVER — enter your seed phrase into any app or website. You should only type it on your physical Ledger device when setting it up or recovering it.
