Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hit back strongly at U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to slap a massive 50% tariff on Indian imports. The U.S. move comes as a reaction to India’s continued purchase of Russian oil.

Speaking at the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi, Modi made it clear that India will always stand by its farmers and the agricultural sector.

> “Our farmers’ interests come first. India will never back down when it comes to protecting farmers, fishermen, and dairy producers. If there’s a price to pay, we’re ready for it,” he declared.
