Tether Launches Omnichain Gold Stablecoin on Tron Blockchain
Tether has launched an omnichain gold stablecoin (XAUt0) on the Tron blockchain to expand tokens across the ecosystem. The token is built on the Omnichain Fungible Token standard from LayerZero, which allows for transfers across blockchains without a middlechain.
The issuer of USDT has more than 7.7 tons of physical gold backing the XAUt stablecoin per quarter by the year 2025. Each XAUt token represents one troy ounce of gold stored in a Swiss vault.
XAUt0 can mimic the launch of USDT0 (USDT0), a token that bridges USDT with the company's dollar-backed stablecoin. The difference is that XAUt is launched on the Ethereum blockchain.
Currently, the largest gold stablecoin is held by XAUt, the non-omnichain gold-pegged stablecoin from Tether, with a market capitalization of US$832 million. Followed by Pax Gold from Paxos with a market capitalization of US$811 million.
