Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said the company was on the "wrong side of history" and needed to implement a new open-source strategy after DeepSeek went viral.
On February 1, during an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, a member asked Altman if he would consider making OpenAI's research public.
"Yes, we are debating the issue. Personally, I believe we are historically on the wrong path and need to find a different open-source strategy. Not everyone at OpenAI agrees with this view, and this is not 'our main priority at the moment,'" Altman responded.
