That’s not fiction—it’s the real story of Epictetus, a slave who became mentally freer than any emperor.
Born around 55 A.D. in Hierapolis (modern-day Turkey), Epictetus was sold into slavery and ended up in the hands of Epaphroditus—a brutal servant of Emperor Nero known for his cruelty.
One day, as the story goes (told by his student Arrian), Epaphroditus began twisting Epictetus’s leg—either out of punishment or simply to assert power.
Epictetus didn’t cry or plead. He calmly said:
**“If you keep going, you’ll break it.”**
And then—*snap*—he did.
Epictetus, lying on the ground, simply said:
**“See? I told you.”**
That moment left him crippled for life, but it also marked the rise of a Stoic mind that would influence generations.

I'd really love to see much more stoicism on square posts... For real! I mean, guys, don't put your lifesavings onto this! It is a bit of gambling, I know, just be cautious, set your own goals (long/short) and remain STOIC.
