Vodafone has made a groundbreaking achievement by completing the world’s first video call via satellite using a standard smartphone. The historic call was made by engineer Rowan Chesmer from a remote location in the Welsh mountains to Vodafone’s CEO Margherita Della Valle.

This remarkable feat was made possible through Vodafone’s collaboration with AST SpaceMobile’s BlueBird satellites, providing a full mobile broadband experience. This innovation marks a major step in bridging network coverage gaps, especially in remote areas, and promises better connectivity for millions.

Vodafone plans to expand this service across Europe later this year, with broader availability expected in 2026.
