Regarding the PCT's launch of the Hackathon 2025 competition for the PI project, some people may not understand the purpose of this initiative.
Here are my thoughts:
The PI Hackathon 2025 will kick off on the 21st. My view is that PI uses this competition to select well-designed apps from this competition for listing, just like a company holds a logo design competition to pick what they think is the best and their favorite design, instead of randomly hiring a design firm, which leads to continuous revisions that ultimately result in dissatisfaction.
Therefore, I believe that the PI Hackathon 2025 competition is very effective in rapidly developing the most useful top apps for the ecosystem.
Moreover, this can be inferred from the official statement, which mentions: "Making meaningful contributions to the Pi ecosystem by building real-world applications."
This implies that the hackathon is not just a competition, but also a process of screening and nurturing ecosystem projects. Rather than being merely a cash prize competition, it seems that PCT hopes to attract global developers through this method, quickly and in the short term, to identify the best applications that can enhance the utility of the Pi token and possibly integrate these applications into its ecosystem.
So, the hackathon prize of tens of thousands of Pi actually equates to the fact that if the app is well-designed, it will definitely mean that someone will operate it; even if no one operates it, there is a high probability it will be bought and managed.
If it needs to be operated, liquidity is essential, so the prize money will essentially be provided to these winners as liquidity. Of course, there are no restrictions on how they should use this prize money, but if they can design something good, they will certainly be motivated to promote it, and will likely need liquidity in a short time.
So, strictly speaking, believing that the prize of tens of thousands of Pi will be dumped onto the market is less accurate than saying that this prize will lead to the launch of apps that require a large amount of Pi token utility. Therefore, this competition can be seen as PCT using 10,000 Pi to exchange for 1,000,000 Pi market demand.
So, this is a competition that creates a large demand for Pi in the market quickly and in the short term, which is a common practice in the informal market.
