Frank Richard Ahlgren III, a Texas Bitcoin investor, was sentenced to two years in prison for failing to report over $4 million in crypto gains. This is the first criminal tax evasion case focused solely on cryptocurrency. Ahlgren underreported his Bitcoin sales from 2017 to 2019, inflating cost bases to reduce taxable gains and hiding transactions using crypto mixers. He reinvested $3.7 million in real estate while evading taxes. In addition to prison time, Ahlgren must pay $1.1 million in restitution and serve one year of supervised release.
Solana Surpasses Ethereum as Top Choice for New Developers
