đ¨ Peter Todd is NOT Satoshi Nakamoto - HBO Update
In a dramatic twist, HBO's documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery concluded by identifying Peter Todd, a Bitcoin core developer, as the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.
The documentary, produced by Cullen Hobak, wrapped up with Todd responding to a direct question about being Nakamoto by saying, "Well yeah, I'm Satoshi Nakamoto." However, this declaration was more tongue-in-cheek than a definitive revelation. Todd has repeatedly denied being Satoshi, both before and after the documentary aired. His social media response to the claims was crystal clear: âI am not Satoshi.â
Hobak built his case around Toddâs past statements and cryptic chat logs, including a comment Todd made about being âthe worldâs leading expert on how to sacrifice your Bitcoins.â This was interpreted as evidence that Todd had potentially locked away or destroyed the access to 1.1 million BTCâthe vast fortune believed to be Nakamotoâs. But those who know Todd see this as yet another instance of his dry humor and commitment to defending Satoshiâs right to privacy.
Why Was Todd Targeted?
Hobakâs reasoning focused on Toddâs deep involvement in Bitcoinâs development and his claim to have been knowledgeable about Bitcoin from its early days. Todd has joked before about the Satoshi identity, famously saying in 2019, "I am Satoshi, as is everyone else." The theory that Bitcoinâs creator could be a young coder who used a pseudonym to be taken more seriously in the cryptography world also aligns with Todd's own narrative of why Satoshi might stay anonymous.
Ultimately, Toddâs response says it all: âI am not Satoshi.â
The mystery continues.
